Decidedly savoury style. While there is a hint of plummy fruit there is more brackish iodine and cedar shavings. Bring on the roasted beast.

Ripe and herbal, with an olive middle, dusting of pencil shavings, and prune finish. Quite nice.

2011 vintage. Estate with 46 hectares of vineyards owned by Silvio Denz (also Faugères, Péby-Faugères and Roycheron in Saint-Emilion , and Lafayrie-Peyraguey in Sauternes). Sometimes criticised for the modern style, the truth is in the glass. And this Cap de Faugères from a difficult vintage absolutely delivers for the price (9,90 euro). Deep red colour with only a slight evolution at the rim. The nose is a bit jammy, but the mouth is much better with the ripe fruit balanced by the acidity and well-tamed tannin. It may be not the most subtle wine, but it's a very attractive right bank Bordeaux at its peak and a strong effort for the vintage.

Deeply flawed wine. Tastes like some of the red grapes got Grey rot and then the grapes weren’t sorted. Foul.

Overall solid performance with a good fruit ripeness and energetic backbone with some layered complexity, a well integrated oak profile. Balanced throughout, but lacking some length to reach higher.

This wine can stand tall as a gatekeeper of its provenance and act as a proof of the true greatness of Merlot when its crafted with respect. Everything is there, we have some dark, graceful and plush fruit, we have some red soft fruit acting in the background, we have complexity coming from spice, nutmeg, coffee and we have a fine dose of pencil shavings luring in the background. The palate jumps off with a prune like character, but the tannins are quick to act, embracing the fruit, keeping the wine dry and surrounds the palate throughout a good lenght. A bit of heat from the alcohol in the back end, but I guess you need that after a week like this. It’s lovely and makes me long for the great right bank of Bordeaux.

I seldom encounter wines from Bordeaux, offering loads of pleasure at bargain prices. This is a great exception! Well done.

Great acid, velvety tannins, a little dried cranberry and herb. Good for steak!

Very green. Didn't get through more than half a glass.
