Château Canon-la-Gaffelière
Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend
It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday . Here's a nice one from Saint Emilion.
Dark ruby in color with a short brick/ reddish rim.
On the nose, blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, wildflowers, spices, peppercorn, pencil lead, dark earth and coffee. Not very powerful though.
Full bodied with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with cooked cherries, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, diet cola, coffee, earth, vegetables and wet leaves.
Medium minus on the finish with firm tannins and tangy cranberries.
This 8 year old is drinking nicely now, although not from a great vintage. Easy drinking with a nice mouthfeel and nice complexity. Showing some over ripen fruits, which might be a storage issue. A good food wine, though.
Needs a couple of hours to open up properly.
I had it blind, and called Right Bank Bordeaux 2011.
A blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels for 15 months.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
89 points.
$100.

It has a fine balance, moderate alcohol (13.5% ABV), and a generous mouthfeel with silky, fine-grained tannins.
C’est trés délicieux!

Ran through an aerator prior to drinking only.
Dark cherry, and subtle touches of earth and oak. Smooth tannins even at this young age.
Very enjoyable now especially while the 09 and 10 vintages age.

A young wine wit very subtle hints of earthiness and tobacco on the nose. Nice tastes of red plums, coffee, and licorice wrapped in sleek tannins. Nicely balanced with a nice acidic backbone. Probably gains in complexity over the next decade.
