Plums, a little leather, violets. A supple and slightly tangy midpalate. Good balance for a 2003. Quite fresh.

Dark Crimson in color ( blew me away)
Floral aromas are abundant. Getting raspberry, black cherry, spices, layered with a light backbone of acidity. The tannins 4/10. Straightforward...
Drinking in the zone , with many great years in front of it. Very much enjoyed this bottle! So did the wife!! @Ron R You gifted me a bottle that I have yet to open. We will soon enough.

Wow! Young and bursting with fruit

@Robert Takahashi This evening was awesome. My brother & sister in law treated us to a phenomenal dinner & we all thoroughly enjoyed a wine that none of us had ever tasted thanks to my long distance friend @Ron R !! 2003 Calon Segur was the WOTN. Decanted 4 hours prior to tasting. Soft & elegant. Crushed dark fruit, mineral & light oak. 60 second finish. This was the 1st wine of the night. All others had a lot to live up to it thereafter. They were good but this Calon was indeed special. Even the restaurants Sommelier agreed with me. He ranked the Calon WOTN, RUDD 2nd and Backus 3rd. . Elegantly awesome!

Still big so decant. Really good 2 to 3 hours after opening. Lots of life left. The nose gave the region away but the mouth was a little simple (in a rich way) but not many layers.

Valentine's Weekend selection. 2003.

One of the better 03s I've had. Still quite ripe aromatics, but showing plenty of Bordeaux character on the palate with good structure.
