This is a nice Napa Cabernet from the house of Caymus. Smokey and spicy.

Showing blackberries, coffee, chocolate, smoke, tobacco, peppercorn and vegetables.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry and very fruity on the palate.

Good by itself as a sipping wine. Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up.

Still very young and need a few years to mature. Hopefully, with time, the smokiness will ease up.

Much better than their Paso Robles version.

Will pair nicely with BBQ Meats.

14.2% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$70.

Can you believe this is my 5th birthday with @Delectable Wine? Wow! I kept this wine specially for this day. I have been dying to try Caymus wine and so it doesn’t have the label but it is bottled by them. I’m moving up in the world!! It is very delicious but is a little high in alcohol content. I received the beautiful crystal decanter from some friends. I had seen it bought from an auction and it was being sold again and I fell in love with it! Cheers!

An offering from the Wagner Family. A Paso Robles Cab, to me a bit disappointing from the Wagner’s. Aromas of simple dark red fruits and some spices. The palate shows over ripe black cherry with big oaky pepper spice. Harsh tannins that stick with you. Medium finish ending hot and spicy. Not that enjoyable. Pass. Tasting Sample. Pricey!

The jury is out as of now for this wine. My current tasting of this private label, Caymus produced Cab, shows aromas of ripe dark fruit and herb notes. On the palate, cherry, blackberry and sweet currant flavors with hints of cacao and earthy bramble tones. Fully developed tannins on the smooth finish. Caymus wines are noted for being approachable while young, but will 1858 stand up with some time? May be a little pricy at $50. I will check back with 1858 in a few years. Tasting Sample.

Not sure how to describe this but it is a pretty darn good wine with steak. Not sweet but not bitter. Smooth.
