Darkly floral and with a mentholated lift, the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino slowly blossoms in the glass with a blend of stone dust, dried cherries, pine shavings and sweet smoke. This is softer and more supple than expected, yet quickly builds with a mineral tension combined with tart wild berry fruits as the slightest trace of tangerine and cedar adds contrast toward the close. The 2016 leaves an enlivening orange tinge through the finish, along with gritty tannins and a slightly chewy sensation, tapering off dramatically long and youthfully tense. The potential here is very high, yet cellaring is still recommended. (Eric Guido, Vinous, December 2023)

No real notes. Crazy dinner party with old friends. Balanced, lengthy. Good acidity.

This is a decadent wine in terms of its decay, but also completely fascinating. While it is well past peak and tawny in color, the nose presents Dr. Pepper that has lost its effervescence, sarsaparilla, hazelnuts, and caramel. Though the palate is lacking fruit it retains an incredible balance of acid and tannin that dance around the lightly spiced balsamic, cola, marzipan, and orange peel flavors. I would be disappointed if I’d spent a considerable amount of money on this wine but being able to taste a returned bottle is intriguing and enthralling in itself, and I consider myself lucky to sample it tonight. While I don’t typically comment on packaging, it’s too beautiful not to mention how striking this label art is. This certainly made an impression.

Because if you’re gonna drive all the way to Colorado, you might as well bring some wine with you, right? Steaks on the grill and this glassful of dusty earth, cherries, sandalwood and leather. Needs air, like a lot of Sangiovese, but after an hour it begins really singing.

Vintage 2015 | Multi-layered elegance with impressions of plums, tobacco, chocolate. Very accessible. Beautiful! Paired with a T Bone Steak and vegetable skewers.

Just a joy. Exuberant blood orange, pomegranate and persimmon notes. Some grilled meat and sage. Full mid palate and fine tannins. Lovely.
