Slaughtering ducks tonight. Canvasback is Duckhornโ€™s Washington venture, which focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon. From the Southwest facing slopes of Red Mountain, the mint, pine, and dark chocolate set this apart as possibly Washington versus Napa. But the cassis and current combined with the baking bread savoriness yields a luscious Napa-style Cabernet.

Red/black fruit, earth tones seeping thru. Fruit still there but dried. Tannins medium plus, smoky, acid present, def oak but not a ton of new oak. Nice wine, easy to drink, but not what i thought from Red mountain Cab Sav...

Easy drinking, nice tannin structure that does not hit you over the head. Great with food.

California Duck migration North. Duckhorn's Washington State adventure looks promising. Full, meaty, and smooth. And taste True to Washington. For their 2nd bottling a great effort and one I expect would get deeper and open with a few years in the bottle because it feels to be holding back from its full potential. Tasted over two nights.
