Very aromatic with cherries, plum skin, dried red fruits, and fig. Perfect pairing for a short rib ragu. Delicious on day two.

Quite classic volcanic Aglianico profile. Ferrous, herbal, spicy, dusty. Slightly rustic feel. Bright cherry, red plum, coffee grounds, pencil shavings, dark chocolate, mint, roasted meat. No one characteristic is dominant, very good integration of tannin. This is a real winner for under $20.

This Aglianico opens with masses of crushed blackberries, sweet spice, and dusty minerals with unreal depth. Creamy textures flood the senses with ripe black fruits, stimulating acidity, saline-minerals and slow-mounting tannins. Finishes sweet and savory, with a bit of tannic heft. $20.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous March 2020)

Aromas of wet earth, bark, and coffee grounds, but very fruity on the palate, with fresh blackberries. Medium acidity, medium tannin. Very nice.

Leather and dirt and red fruit on the schnozz, juicy cherry and a suggestion of something like oregano on the palette, maybe even caramel in there. Leaves you with a pleasant taste of prune juice. It feels a little sweeter than I usually go for but it’s so balanced with the acidity and tannins, I dig it, a nice wine for the whole family. I guess the tannins are high for some people, like my sister wouldn’t like it. But she’s a lawyer so she can’t be trusted anyway, right?
