Cantina Terlan
Rarity Pinot Bianco
Terlano, Alto Adige, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy
One of the finest white wines I’ve had the pleasure of tasting. I’ve been a long-time Cantina Terlan fan, and have always had a soft spot for their $20 Pinot Bianco… but this takes things to another level. Polished, slightly saline-citrusy acidity, with muted limestone, and focused white peach and lime. It’s hard to condense this into a few descriptors. If you’re a Batard-Montrachet or Corton-Charlemagne fan, but can do with a little less French oak influence, and a little Muscadet Sevre et Maine, then this could be your jam. Looking forward to my next Alto Adige visit. Eataly Dallas (thanks to Derrek).

Powerhouse. 100 percent Pinot Bianco, bottled in 2016. Very complex wine with even some umami.

This “Rarity” Pinot Bianco is a great find and until this gem, I would not have paid attention to Italian whites at all. But this is a serious wine with nice florals if not saffron notes. I was wowed by the new Head Somm at Ducasse London.
