Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Gorgeous on both days. The 2019 Grumello “Rocco de Piro”pours a brilliant, ruby color with a transparent core and a slightly watery rim; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous notes of cool, fresh raspberries, roses with babies breath, Alpine herbs, cedar chest, and rocky earth. On the palate the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and the texture is silky. Such a beautiful and elegant expression of Chiavennasca. Drink now through 2034. Thanks for the assist @Lyle Fass

Needs 45 minutes then it’s showtime. Unreal cool climate roses, just stunning florals, huge mineral. Beautiful perfume here. Palate is supple and so elegant. Gorgeous, and delicate inner mouth perfume wrapped in velvety structure. Tangy cherry fruit with that earthy sweetness and finish with just perfect tannins. A brilliant wine.

3 hour decant. So delicate, so pure. Big cherry cordial note. Mountain stream, minerals, foliage, light tannin. Burgundian. Beautiful work.

But man oh man the palate is just bonkers. Sweet, decadent but fiercely energetic and textured. Amazingly elegant tannins and such purity. OMG. This is sick. The level of refinement combined with the purity is fruit is insane. Perfectly ripened mid season cherries. Wow. Incredible concentration and just perfect ripeness. The fruit is plentiful and prodigious. Amazing length.
After an hour the nose is just killer. Amazing. Stunning smokey cherries. Like a potpourri. What a wine.

Super elegant and such fine tannins and wonderful sweet/sour/tangy early to mid season cherry fruit. So silky and refined. Terrific freshness and concentration and substantial structure and purity. Long persistent finish and such a lovely pitter patter. A genius wine!

Vino vValtellinese — my favorite. Still young but juicy, minty, red fruit, brown sugar, etc. Better than 2015 vintage.
