Huge tannins and acid like battery acid in your mouth. But very transparent, and even elegant in its intensity, so that it’s almost sensual. Nose has beach-plum and wild bluberries emerging over time. A little savory beef broth. Feel like this needs another 5-10.

Big. Everything about this wine is big. Nose has tons of baking spice, warm sandstone, oozy ripe berries with a hint of macerated prune, leather. Direct and tannic (hey, it’s Sagrantino) in the mouth. Not a wine for dainty hors d’ouvres but went well with a meat sauce made from leftover red wine and tomato braised pork loin pulsed through the food processor.

It is in fact tannic but ripely so. Lighter bodied, good acidity. And pretty black fruit and spices. Needs food but a treat.

Lots of variable scores here but this wine is unreal. Holy smoke. Big, ripe sag nose with flowers, spice and raisin. Richness is so intense in the nose. Floral but dark flowers. What a crazy nose. Soil tones. Like a garden of Sagrantino. Palate is Omg juicy with insane acidity. So fresh. It’s like not that tannic. This is if Foillard made Sagrantino. Wow. Amazing palate presence and purity. Fruit is so sappy and so intense. Amazing freshness. So much power and intensity but elegant. Awesome wine: a joy to drink. Delicious, cerebral and engaging.

Really interesting wine. There are layers of fruit: black cherries and red cherries, purple plums, dried cherries and raisins and dried figs. The tannins are for real and leathery, but they also bring out some bruised red apple. I think it’s the chewy tannins with the lifted acidity that combine the fresh and dried fruit. It’s pretty stony and clean. As it warms up and takes on air there’s some brett-like animal aromas and porcini mushrooms. Long tannic finish rather than a sweet fruit finish. I’m sure some people smell coffee or cocoa powder in here. Really lively sagrantino. resembles an aglianico a bit, but with lighter colored fruits and without the tar.
