Calabretta
Sicilia Nerello Mascalese
Dark fruit, old leaves, and some oak that is well integrated and adds creamy texture. Plus it’s got enough ecidity to be practically gulpable. Such a pleasure to drink. Goes with anything north of shellfish.

Apr 4th, 2018This feels like a beautifully aged Nerello mascalese. Tastes like rich mellowed fruit with old leaves still with substantial alcohol and a sharp aftertaste. Feels like fall in a bottle. Probably even better with a few more years.

Nov 9th, 2017Tastes like a ripe Barolo grown in volcanic soil. Concentrated and juicy red fruit balanced by strong flavors of tobacco, ash, and dark earth.

1 person found it helpfulJan 6th, 2017I think this producer from Sicily can do no wrong. Dark plum, blackcurrant, pomegranate, all combined with chalky but integrated tannins and medium acid to cut the fattiest of foods. A true value and conversation starter. Enjoyed tremendously with a salty and juicy rack of lamb.

Jun 11th, 2017Ripe. And ripping. The acid and fruits are killing it with the tannins. Just balanced and with some volcano in the back makes it one of my favorites. Drink it. And if you don't finish it, unlikely, it gets a little more funk and Brett over time! Yum
