Jun 22nd, 2024Meh? A bit flabby. Had a nice salinity and minerality to it. But just seemed really tired and senescent. It sounds like other vintages of this wine has been lovely, but the 2022 is not.

Dec 20th, 2020One of my last whites before the summer ended. God this grew, really a reminder some whites really need some room to stretch & this is one of them. All rounded corners & lemon kurd/ sage notes with an emphatic nod to Burgundy. And 13$. I love this producer!

Calabretta also makes about 2,000 bottles a year of a rare white wine made from (mostly) old vine Carricante, interplanted with Minella Bianca (for acidity). It is aged in a combo of tank and neutral wood. This intriguing white is somewhat reminiscent of Pepe’s Trebbiano d’Abruzzo, with melony fruit and hints of straw, hay and almonds. According to Massimiliano, Carricante is somewhat tight in its youth and requires a couple of years to express itself, so he holds it back before release. There is ample weight and texture, lovely acidity and a real sense of “grip” (almost tannic) on the palate. As such, it is a perfect wine to pair with all kinds of food!

2 people found it helpfulMay 20th, 2014A bit uninteresting to start, but improved over two hours. Wouldn't buy again, even though I'm a huge fan of the Rosso.

Apr 4th, 20172014. Front loaded. Mostly pear, apple, and citrus with a little peach skin. Alcohol at 15% deadens the wine through the mid-palate and finish. Still tasty.
