Nerello Mascalese Vigne Vecchie
The 2015 Nerello Mascalese Vigne Vecchie is simply stunning, erupting from the glass with a burst of crushed black cherries, cloves, blood orange and hints of dusty earth. This is soft-textured, nearly fleshy in feel, with a core of tart red berry fruits offset by sour citrus as rosy inner florals form toward the close. It finishes with staining length and concentration, just lightly structured, leaving a sensation of hard red candies to fade. This is a vibrant vintage of Vigne Vecchie, but it possesses the balance for further evolution. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2024)

I’ve been aging Etna Rossos to see how they age. Some are doing better than others. This is one of my older bottles and it’s seen its best days, I believe. At this point it still offers the wonderfully stony grip that you expect from Nerello Mascalese but its flavors and aromas are muted. Notes of dried strawberry and cherry mix with river mud and dried herbs. Overall a dusty complexion with earthy qualities that aren’t all delightful.

Jul 28th, 20212020/3/30-4/1. This starts off a bit rasiny on the nose - it’s labeled at 15% abv. The palate has some balancing acidity and is fairly dry, but I could do with less ripeness. I don’t remember this or Calabretta in general being so hefty, so maybe it’s the 2007 heat. The raisins also do calm down a bit on subsequent days, but I’d like to try the next vintage

濃度のある甘さに伸びやかでしみこむような酸。
タンニンは滑らかだが、アルコールは15%とかなり高く、ボリューム感有り。
ガイオガイオの軽やかな出汁感を想像していたが、このボリューム感は少し意外。もっと旨味系の方がよかったでけど、これはこれでなかなか良い。
