Blend of mostly Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Cabernet Franc, deep Ruby color with aromas of berry fruits and cedar herb spice, 17 months in 44% new French oak. On the palate flavors of black cherry, blueberry and plum with vanilla spice, espresso, leather and cedar herb notes. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, toasty earthy mineral layered with sweet spicy character. Nice!

Perfectly in it’s drinking window! Soft tannins, dark fruit character. Very expressive wine. Smells of dirt, decomposing leaves, blackberry, leather, slight tobacco box. I am so glad I waited to drink this one. If you have this wine in this vintage, now is the time!

15’ Cakebread Merlot Black cherry on the nose as well as the front & mid-palate. Baking spices, Concentrated long finish. This would benefit with another 2/3 years in the bottle.

Monthly WTF group. Theme this month was merlot. All wines tasted blind.

I called this 2012-2014 Napa merlot. Very balanced. Chalky tannins. Red, blue and black fruit. Aside from the Pedestal, I got more chocolate and dates here than the others. It wasn’t exuberant nor shy, just a nice “down the middle” wine. Thanks

A nice red, good tannins and bright dark cherry and black currant throughout. Sadly, there are $20.00 bottles that are better than this $70.00 bottle. This does not live up to the price.

(**) Well balanced wine. Black plum, buttered toast and violet. Needed about 30 minutes to air out the alcohol, then perfect.
