This iteration of the Garagiste private label (from an undisclosed winery) is excellent, particularly in view of the vintage. Classic Nebbiolo nose of faded roses, macerated cherry, old barrel scents, spice (hint of cinnamon?), crushed stone, and porcini mushroom. Surprisingly soft on the palate for a ‘14, with deep cherry fruit, crushed stone, and spice flavors. Very nice flavor concentration. Nice acids and very soft tannin come though in the back half of the palate.

This great value Garagiste private label is drinking sensationally right now. Nose has deep wild cherry liqueur, sprinklings of spice dust, bright mineral-flecked gravel, and ancient legal treatises. The old library thing. At a perfect point palate-wise, with deep fruit, bright acids, resolved tannins. Outstanding.

Just fine, everyday Barolo. At ten years old this was good with some mortadella and crackers.

Last bottle of this incredible private label value from Garagiste. Apparently made by Icardi (see cork), this is still not quite at its apogee, but it’s getting close. Classic Barolo nose features clean gravel, ripe macerated cherries, fragrant leather, rose petal, and spice. Mouthfilling flavors of dark cherry, old barrel, and the finish goes savory/minerally as it progresses. Tannin is still abundant and a little puckery at the close, but food will tamp that down.

Ripe fruit - lower acid and overall structure than one would expect in Barolo - but a nice intro to this region for the newbie in your group

Sometimes when writing I spread all my notes on the floor before me and embark on assembling something reasonable. Ca’Rozzeria is fabulous wine assembled from the metaphorically discarded to the floor goods of good producers. But the trimmings are from good producers that are loathe to part with them. And I hope my words are occasionally decent. I would not call it classic Barolo but I would say it’s fantastic Nebbiolo and the price is stupid good. Okay actually structure/flavors? I’d almost guess it was Sangiovese if blinding. Ripe cherries, green herbs, balsamic vinegar...less rose more violet. 2012 was a year of leaner Barolo. Less tannins than I’d expect than Barolo but that’s totally cool seeing as I’m drinking this sitting on my kitchen floor working.

This is an inexpensive private label used by Garagiste. But the cork provides a clue, n’est pas? Anyway, it’s a terrific under $20 Barolo. Scents of gravel, new leather, roses, deep cherry fruit. Pure tasting, full-bodied, but with terrific acidity. Soft clingy tannins and a fairly long finish.

Highly disappointing. Overly ripe with notes of prunes. Thin at the same time. Is this the same juice Jon wrote about? Asking seriously.
