Opaque ruby of very low transparency; very typical to this varietal. Red currant aromas, plus saw dust and hints of tobacco leaf. Also a bit of alcohol coming through. Structure shows up right away in the palate; obviously not balanced but not unpleasant. Heavy on the tobacco notes, and obvious toasty flavors, black pepper, and black currant. Finishes fairly long. Good, food worthy wine. 84 pts.
