Buccella

A terrific Merlo has a lot of blueberry tones

May 3rd, 2022As excepted for Buccella, this was rich and opulent but no trace of flabbiness or too extracted in terms of the fruit profile. I was actually surprised, in a good way, about the infusion of red fruit here. Cherry liqueur, rhubarb tart and oozing in blackberries up front. Sweet baking spices, shaved dark cocoa and Andes mint on the finish. Killer merlot.

Jul 27th, 2019Surprise 2009 Napa Merlot tasting after the Pahlmeyer tasting.
Deep and dark ruby red. Layered nose with a little bit of stinginess, cassis, black currants, and blackberries. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and medium plus to full bodied. Solid acidity and notes of dark berries, spices, graphite and pencil shavings. Long finish. Drink till 2022.

Just shy of jet black in the glass. Nose billows with mint, herbs, and wet dirt. Fuller than full bodied like their cabs with bright fruit, big acidity, and a wet fine grit sand paper tannic finish. Zero green on the palate. The best merlot I can remember having. Killer now I'm sure even better in the future.

Mar 18th, 2016Wow.. This is why I only tend to like higher end Merlot from California if not from Bordeaux.. opulent sweet red fruit on the nose and palate, gorgeous wild flower and sweet tobacco, a whif of milk chocolate as it opens up, mouthfilling but round tannins even at 8 years old, but smooth as all get out.. very complete.
