Shows the age but still lots of good fruit. Resolved dark cherry, wood, orange rind, some band aid. Lovely clarity and balance. Some sweetness and loads of character

My last of these, with the prior two bottles a bit drying on the finish and lacking fruit/energy. This was the complete opposite, in a good way… dark tawny color with amber in the rims. Exotic, awesome old Barolo nose. Notes of cherry, rose petals, balsamic vinegar, anise and a little road tar. Silky in the mouth. Awesome balance of fruit and structure. Still has some grip. Just shows that bottles can always surprise and deliver something special. Paired perfectly with the Sopranos movie and a big ol’ charcuterie plate.

Amber tawny color, dark but translucent. Sweet fruit nose. Notes of plum, sour cherries, some camphor, roses and a little molasses. Nice and smooth in the mouth. Fruit is faded but holding on. A bit dry on the finish. Pared well with lasagna.

Soft sweet cherry and resolved leather. A wonderfully supple palate- very open and expressive. Yum

Tawny with amber in the rims. Translucent. Throughout 7 hours this bounced around from being there to being nowhere. Notes shifted from classic Barolo with roses, tar, cherry and tea... to soy sauce and salt and a quietness. This was all over the place, up and down. It had a dryness consistent with other 88s I’ve had. Overall good not great, but had flashes of greatness.

This wine is old enough to drink itself. And it should, because it's fucking awesome. On it's last revolution, but holding strong. Hard to put into words the specialness of tonight. A woman I poured it for said "I know what happened in the 1930s." She turned out to be from the 1910s. I told her "Barolo speaks directly to my brain."

I think this wine has healing powers. Truly. Like drinking from a spring.
