Amazing wine. While of course still young, the magic of the red label from the master in ‘07 was in full form tonight wafting a captivating bouquet of Christmas spices, rose pedals, licorice, worn leather and a menthol freshness. A stunning perfume. The palate shows incredible richness and density yet without weight nor heat, and the most luxurious of textures that wraps around the mouth before its multi-minute finish. Wow.

A touch of medicinal herbs, cherries and some smokey elements come together in this tasty, drink-me-now Barolo. A touch faded, brick color, and a dried fruit quality points towards a shortish life ahead. No matter. This is one for now!

Naso molto bello ma troppo light in bocca. Bella beva ma alla cieca avrei detto 1999-2000

A stellar showing from the 2001. Compelling inner sweetness allied to power. Magnificent!

A wonderful Barolo from Bruno Giacosa. Light to medium crimson with a tawny rim. Savoury with balsamic notes. The high tannin high acid of young Barolo has softened at 7 years and this Wine has integrated beautifully. Nothing wrong with the Wines of Sicily and Puglia but this is a nice return to the King of Italian Wine. Excellent match with Carbonara and cured Pork cheek at Roscioli in Rome.

Although quite young, of course, a seriously long decant of 5+ hours unleashed a glimpse of the magic of Giacosa red label. It’s incredibly aromatic and its stunning bouquet of rose petals, Christmas spices, plums, worn leather and a menthol freshness leap from the glass. A captivating perfume. On the palate it’s rich, intense and muscular, while at the same time showing elegance and grace in its weightless intensity. The finish is insanely long, seemingly going on for minutes, showing vibrance, lift and finely grained tannins. An outstanding Barolo with a long life ahead.
