Reddish with some amber. Delicate nose, or maybe so sitting next to a Beaucastel that is like smelling salts. Notes of black cherry, red rose, some sappy fruit and a little earth. Nicely balanced in the mouth, better than I expected for the vintage. Not great but not bad.

Tawny and mostly translucent. Fruit dominated nose with some funk. Notes of chopped ripe cherries, moist earth, pepper, some molasses and faint red roses. In the mouth, a high level of fruit matched against modest structure and light tannins. Medicinal and a little hot, some raisin notes, not all that balanced. Reflective of the hot year/vintage. An ok drink but will wait to see what 10 more years of age will add to the experience.

A wine of this age should not be as mature, BUT in this case it's advanced maturity is our win as it is still balanced and not tired. It just tastes more like a 1995 or so. The plus side is not owning it but tasting it, but that what you get with 2003 in many cases as the summer was one of the hottest on record in all of Europe. #giacosa #barolo

A precious thing.
Could keep it for years and would be much better, but I was to anxious to prove it. Excellent anyway

Classic. Dusty & soft on the edges, lots of structure, years to go. Yum.
