Popped and poured, no formal notes. This bottle of 2007 Giacosa Barolo Falletto Serralunga d’Alba was served alongside a number of absolute bangers and was probably my wine of the night. I would describe it as vinous now and it has so much personality. Unmistakably Serralunga: gorgeously perfumed, beautifully dark fruited and fabulously structured. This is the third 2007 I’ve had from multiple producers in the last 18 months and I gotta say, I think the 2007 Barolo vintage is in a really great spot right now. Definitely a vintage I’ve slept on. For this particular bottle, drink now though I expect it will live through 2037.

After 4 disappointing bottles out of a case this was the first really good one. Gripping tannins, smoke a bit of leather and a lot of red fruit.

Probably a not well kept bottle. Color too evolved, nose gone, wine flat.

Friday night in SA was Italian varietals and @Shawn R bought out restaurant Gwendolyn for the event. Gwendolyn is a 100% sustainable, using only local ingredients restaurant run by a French chef/owner and they don’t use any post modern motorized machines in food prep. This Giacosa from @Eric LaMasters was my co-WOTN. It was in a phenomenal spot. Elegant ripe red fruit, blackberry compote, spice box and a silky smooth length to spare finish.

Night 1 of the Fall WNH event in San Antonio. What a killer start to the extended weekend, all courtesy to Shawn and Jennifer for hosting! Tonight was Italian wines.

Beautiful wine. Some smoke, cranberry, old licorice, potpourri, rose petal, and beautiful acidity on the palate. Tastes incredibly young! one of my favorites of the night. Awesome bottle from

Has the rare opportunity to try about 30 Giacosas, all great, what a master, incredible consistency of craftsmanship, but this one was my favorite, it just had it all, perfume, structure, fruit, forest, wonderful with the truffle dinner, a post harvest treat.
