Night 1 of WineBoyz Wineapalooza. I brought this, described by one critic as the best Giacosa white label ever made. Reddish amber color. Killer nose. Classic Barolo descriptors… roses, anise, red cherries, some fat. Amazing scents and so well developed. Great finish. Nice balance. I could smell this all night.

Translucent cherry red. A spectacular nose. Black cherry, dried herbs and leather with a whiff of tobacco. Beautiful balance on the palate. Savory and bright. Quite lifted with a great, light intensity. Amazing.

Reddish amber tawny, translucent. Gave it 4 hours in the decanter. Crazy nose. Zing. Notes of black cherries, tea, roses, dry earth, some smoke and a tiny bit of tar. Perfectly balanced in the mouth. A nice core of sweet but dry fruit, matched against softened tannins and noticable acidity. Lasting finish. Great wine.

Tawny color and transparent with light amber rims in the glass. Notes of cranberries, rose petals, tea and a little anise. The fruit is delicate and subtle in the first few tastes, but it firmed up after 5-6 hours in the decanter. Tannins fully resolved. A refined richness grew over the evening too. Great to share this with the wine group on a night when we chatted about prior favorite Giacosa bottles. One of the all time greatest winemakers, RIP

Tasted blind. Tawny reddish color with great vibrancy in the glass. Nose screams Nebbiolo. Notes of tea leaves, rose petals, molasses, and rubber bike tire. A forever finish. Tasted blind we were told this already had 7 hrs of air in the decanter. Over 3 hrs this went from amazing to out of this world. So complex. So refined. Such a treat to taste this rare wine. This wine is still young and can improve but it's so amazing right now. Best Giacosa I've had.

1985 Giacosa Collina Rionda di Serralunga Nebbiolo. Group lunch at Ner w Hrtn, McC. Raisiny and pruney at first. More sweet than I tend to like. But it def mellowed and lost some of that cloying sweetness after some time in the decanted. We only decanted right before drinking and it prob could have used more time opening up. When it did, it was excellent.

Beautiful Giacosa example; seemed a bit more aged than an 85 would suggest but perhaps reflective of the vintage; obvious Barolo notes; very angular; tea, spice, rose petals. Lovely.
