Coteaux Champenois Grand Cru Bouzy Rouge
Showing out of its mind today. Needed 25 minutes as it showed nothing initially. Now it’s huge cranberry, mineral and chalk tones. Some light raspberry as well. Big evocative complex nose. Complex, tart, concentrated and deep with great freshness and lithe tannins. So elegant, delicate and pure. Wonderful.

Mar 9th, 2019What you get when a champagne maker makes a red still wine. This is tart, taut, and tight as hell, even after a full day of air, but the fruit is clean and pure, the finish is both long and tannic. Will be interesting to see this evolve. @Lyle Fass says this is a cross between Volnay and Chiroubles - I see what he means, but would probably say Mercurey before Volnay.

So fragrant and so divided by stunning cherry fruit and forceful minerals. Palate has loads of volume and amplitude and generous ripe fruit but it is in no way sweet like Burgundy can be. This is as mineral as Pinot Noir gets. Great concentration and texture. Just a great wine that is so so distinct.

1 person found it helpfulMay 9th, 2020Champagne rouge is so distinctive. There’s something so ephemeral about it. Elegant. More a hint of fruit than actual fruit. Very mineral. A whisper of cherry. Nose is cherry flower. Maybe some licorice flower. What you’d imagine still champagne would be.
A bad day. For some reason this went well with fegato alla veneziana and roasted peppers and fennel.
As this opens the cherry is more pronounced. Really delicious. Nose is more intense. Almost too good for a day like this. Spice on the finish. Very very good.

Wow 2015 is 2015.
Palate is very chocolatey. Big fruit for red champagne
But you get that champagne minerality. Love this. Great change of pace from burgundy
This is great for about an hour. Drink em if you got em.
