Bonny Doon Vineyard
Le Cigare Volant Grenache Blend
Monterey, Central Coast, California, USA

2005 vintage under screwcap. I little pssst when opened lol. Really great example right out of the gate. Lots of intense black fruit, game-y, herb-y aromas. The color was remarkably deep garnet and not too advanced. Slight tawnyness happening on the rim a bit. Palate was intense but balanced. Lots of typical CdP elements throughout. Great acidity. What a fantastic bottle! This is California’s best Rhône wine and it’s not even close

This 2019 vintage of Bonny Doon’s long-running flagship wine is medium garnet in color and tint, but it smells much darker. Aromas of black cherry, licorice, tea and a bit of earth pave the way for a palate which is fruit-driven, yet minerally-blessed. Originally inspired by the Rhône Valley, Randall Grahm says the wine now seems to reflect Burgundy. The acidity is refreshing and the tannins are gentle.

The Bonny Doon flagship. Lighter red. Ruby red. Floral nose. Sort of a ripe meadow strawberry meets damsel plum. Flavors are juicy, tart and elegant. Complex. Smoke and good red/black fruit. This is a wine that hits a home run.

Lots of cherry and strawberry cola shining through on the nose. Hits you lot a ton of “Brix”😂. Lots of great acid holding on, cherry flavors abound. 13.5%

Jun 20th, 2022Fully flavored with ripe red fruits, luscious and juicy. If I didn't know better is swear this was a French Bordeaux. Earthy, with long finish and smooth tannins. $15 at Village Corner.
