Founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga Martínez, now run by Manuel, Isabel & Isaac Muga Caño. Deep Ruby, aromas of sweet red and black fruits with pepper spice, unmistakable Muga. 4 grape blend from the Haro district (70% Tempranillo, rest Garnacha, Mazuelo & Graciano), palate shows cherry and currant flavors with espresso, vanilla & toasty oak tones. Soft full tannins, lively acidity on a medium+ finish ending with an earthy mineral character. Nice value! Great vintage!

Jun 8th, 2024Deep bruised red. Musty damp woods on open quickly giving way to red berries, cedar, tobacco, and leather aromas. Medium bodied, medium + alc, medium acidity. Cherry pie filling, a little flat on the finish in need of more tannin support.

Vanilla - American oak, cassis, deep purple in color, red blue black bramble, earth, spices, pepper, full body, med+ acid, med+ tannin. I mistook it for Zinfandel twice 🤦♀️. Second showing it does tastes more tart red fruits and Chinese restaurants hoisin sauce and dill!

Oct 9th, 2022Damp, acrid cedar, plum, and lichee into warm spice nose, strong earthen oak start to pleasant dark bitters tempered by mid vanillas, finishing with cranberry dry. Excellent thanksgiving pairing where rich and spice are present.

Mar 16th, 20222017 vintage. Not as (currently) deep as the 2016. Some tartness along with fruit but no fat. Still fairly harmonious tho. Will be interesting to see where this wanders-or doesn’t.
