Fruit forward. Coconuts. A bold and kinda trashy simpleton, but pretty sexy. This wine is like the hot girl at the suburban mall who you know is all surface and no depth but would totally sleep with anyway. #noregrets

Nose of blackberry and leather. Soft and fine tannin with classic finish. One of my favorite Spanish wines at this price range.

Toasted oak, vanilla, leather, herbs, blackberry, beef jerky, chocolate. Nice soft mouthfeel and lingering tannins.

Fragrant leather, anise, tar and barnyard. A little disjointed with bright black and red fruit and good acidity. Resin-y wood finish.

Had another 2005 laying around and popped cork. Aromas of dark red fruit. On the palate ripe blackberry, black cherries and blackberries, well structured and nice balance. The wine has a lively acidity with a nice mineral/oaky flavor with very smooth tannins. The wine seemed softer than the notes from my last tasting about a year ago. Nice value.

Prominent French oak. Everyone called this new world, blind. Big and ripe, lacking the elegance of what I'd expect from a Gran Reserva. Clearly a modern crowd-pleasing aim.

Spicy, toasty wooden flavors create the backbone here. Showed some nice bottle age!

Maybe not a monumental Rioja, but a great one nonetheless (particularly at $18!)
