The 2019 Malleolus de Sanchomartín is a 100% Tempranillo parcel wine sourced from Emilio Moro's vineyards in Pesquera del Duero and was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. Purple with a garnet sheen. The modest nose offers dark fruit notes with hints of wild herbs. On the palate, it's dry, rich and juicy, with a taut, chalky mouthfeel that leads into a compact, restrained finish underscored by traces of oak. (Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous, November 2023)

8 hours or so decanted, double decanted, brought this around nicely. Again another wine this evening that only got better. Big, bold tempranillo that has some resolved, velvety tannin of a wine of 15+ years but the fruit of wine maybe 7-8 years old...mostly primary, but deep.

Founded by Emilio Moro, born in Pesquera de Duero Made. Wine made from grapes of vineyards, 25 & 75 years old, from Camino Viejo estate. Malleolus is a Latin word meaning “small hammer or mallet” used in planting & “majuelo” Spanish for “young vine” a traditional way of referring to a vineyard in Pesquera del Duero. Deep red subtle fruit aromas with espresso & smoky notes. Blackberry & cherry with vanilla spice on full lush tannins needing more time. Well balanced, complex, lingering with earthy finish.

What an amazing wine! 97 point according to WS. I going to wait a couple more year in order to create a Vertical! Benchmark wine group has like 12 bottles of this vintage. $150 per bottle.

Deep, dense, and Chocolaty. Massive frame with robust cassis, sour plum, leather, and a bit of smoked meat. Finish is long and swirls with a mix of chocolate ganache and ferrous mineral. Delicious now but well worth saving.
