Apr 9th, 2022Smells of Smokey game.
The smoked meat cones through, with mint, anise, red berry. Herbaceous and deep, if you can get past the tart lemon acids and gripping tannins that wrap this wine up. Certainly one of the better I have had from a little known of South Africa’s wine regions, the coastal.
Great at cellar temp, and with a couple of hours of air.

Great at cellar temp, and with a couple of hours of air.
Deep purple in color with a purplish rim.
On the nose, raspberries, strawberries, sour cherries, earth, leather, dust, vegetables, leaves, dark chocolates and black pepper.
Medium bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with sour cherries, pomegranates, cranberries, earth, wood, peppercorn, green herbs, vegetables, wet rocks, tobacco leaf, spices and graphite.
Medium minus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tart cranberries.
This South African Bordeaux blend is unbalanced with mild complexity. Might be better in a year or two, but right now it is very tart.
Better with food than just by itself. I paired it with a cheese plate and crackers.
A blend of 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 12% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
81 Points.
$15.

Thus far my foray into South African wines has been disappointing at best. But this....exceeded my disappointment. Bitter, harsh with an aftertaste burnt hair. Maybe with age it may improve but that doesn’t help me here and now.

Jan 30th, 2020Nose; Dark jammy fruit and chocolate. Taste; Front - Muted Red fruits more depth than sweetness. Middle - Dark chocolate, dates, flowing into coffee bitterness.End; Graphite with sizeable tannins. Enjoyed with Prime Rib, Mashed Parsnips and Demi Glacé

Sep 29th, 2018This is a well executed Bordeaux blend from South Africa. Aromas of black fruit, leather and smoke. It offers solid structure with firm tannins. A great buy at the $10 price point. Pair with grilled meats!

Jul 4th, 2018Exceptional for $15 Conplex, medium bodied wine. On the nose I get violets, lavender, and leather. Wine takes a complete turn with leather, tobacco, and bell pepper. Delicious on it's own, or carne asada or steak. Something with spice. Not the best wine in the world but an amazing value for $15
