Inky purple. Strong floral notes of violets and lilacs accompanied by cassis, black cherries, and chocolate. Intense and sweet dark fruit on the palate with supple tannins. Blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. Very appealing entry to the Bevan lineup of Bordeaux style wines.

There is no issue at all with tasting the 2015 Ontogeny, Bevan's entry-level wine, after all the big guns. If anything, the tasting order simply shows what a great wine this. Expansive aromatics lead into a core of rich, pliant fruit in this sweeping, dramatic wine. Readers who don't want to splurge on the higher-priced offerings will do just fine with the Ontogeny. This is a tremendous showing. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2018)

One of my favorite entry level wines out there. Outstanding and in your face. Surprisingly open at the young age. Rush of all types of fruit. Sandalwood and bacon on the nose. Elegant on the palate actually... not as brash as previous vintages. Full bodied. Large and in charge with blueberry pie and fig. Bevan is in my top 3 of favorite winemakers.

Wow... this has to be one of the best vintages of Ontogeny in years, if not ever. Higher concentration of Tench vineyard, used in the EE Red, than in any other vintage of this wine. Incredible nose of luxardo cherries, pencil box, leather, lavender syrup, and vanilla. The pallet is brick house! Tannins perfectly integrated, full throttle, exhibiting notes of smoked blackberry reduction, dark chocolate, red delicious apple skin, licorice, and a finish that lasts forever. I feel like there's no way this wine should score less than 97 on WA. In my top 10 wines I've had all year - I will gladly take a bottle of this for Christmas! ;)

The cruise continues! Night eight aboard the Allure of the Seas and since the Special Selection has already been finished and the Opus is too young we ran downstairs to grab this beauty out of the suitcase.

Deep and dark ruby red. Deep and layered nose with tobacco, spices, vanilla, dark floral notes, black currants, cassis and a touch of scorched earth. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) with a full body. Smooth attack on the palate but very powerful with solid acidity and strong backbone. Layered with vanilla, cinnamon and dark spices with a strong dark black cherry undertone throughout. Long finish. Big powerful wine with a decade or more left in it and will only get even better with time. Drink till 2030. (95+)

We decided we needed to celebrate this vacation with my parents so we brought along the first high-end bottle of wine we purchased back in 2014 when we went into Total Wine and met Victoria. So glad we did!

Second of the blind wines and gifted to us by @TheSkip. Thanks Steve!

Deep ruby red core and a tad lighter on the edges with a touch of sediment. Layered nose but not overpowering at all like other Bevans, notes of sweet spices, cinnamon and dark berries. Medium plus to heavy integrated tannins (7/10) with a touch of heat. Some jammy black fruits on the palate with some anise and a little vegetal. Full attack but thinned out before the finish. Vegetal notes took some time but blew off being some more dark berries to the palate. Medium to medium plus bodied with a long finish. Solid work in a touch vintage. Drink till 2021.
