Something was not quite right with this bottle. Opened on Xmas day. Revisited today. Not as racy and streamlined as usual. More disjointed and lacking the exotic notes we normally experience. I hope this is just a bottle in shock.

Cloudy, substantial enjoyment. For me this has always been a with food SB. It’s not a pour in to your thermos and take to the beach wine. Props to gramps. Former 82nd airborne stud. Gone for 35 years but taught me that alcohol is not just about getting fucked up.

From reading the tasting notes online we decided to give this a little decant before drinking. Light to medium greenish yellow. Tight on the nose with a touch of guava, some more tropical fruit notes, and a little bit of white floral notes. Needed about two hours for the acidity to round out a little bit. Heavy acidity (7/10) and light plus to medium bodied. Layered palate with notes of tropical fruits, some citrus too and crushed white rocks. Drink from 2018 till 2023.

Sublime. Always delivers an exotic, exuberant nose. Zesty, zippy and mineral-driven on the palette. Beautiful fruit profile. We’re addicted to this SB.

There was no question what my first Hurricane Harvey wine would be... Russell Bevan's Sauvignon Blanc from the Dry Stack Vineyard in Sonoma's Bennett Valley. A good case could be made for it being the best domestic Sauvignon Blanc, and it's certainly in the top 3 or 4 (among Peter Michael's L’Après-Midi, Arkenstone, and Merry Edwards). The distinctive cloudiness seems like it's become Russell's signature. The 2016 presents a rich and tropical fruit cocktail laced with garden herbs that's accentuated by a round, silky mouthfeel, which also gives extraordinary length to the finish... that's right, it's a Sauvignon Blanc. Not to mention, every once in awhile it gives off a tartness reminiscent of Lemonheads candy.

What a wine.. 😁 there's just nothing like unfiltered, unfined, and unhinged Sauvignon Blanc. It's like my love for German Hefeweizen - hazy, but all of the flavor that Bevan would just lose if he wanted a star bright wine.. looks aren't everything. All the main indicators of SB, and much more - lemon grass, grapefruit reduction, unpasteurized clover honey, white peppercorn, vanilla, Meyer lemon, and white pear. Juicy acidity, intense and inviting florals, and fun to look at in the glass. 2016 is a great year for Bevan SB.

The recent past vintages of Bevan's SB's have not been great. This is a better showing. Bright, exotic and zippy, with just the right amount of sweetness. Complimented our sushi perfectly.

This is my second time having Bevan's Drystack SB (though I often have the Addax SB, which is also unfiltered and made by Bevan). The nose on this is very typical SB to me...tropical peach, nectarine, floral. Maybe a bit of popcorn kernel (not buttery). But the palate on this is just always so freaking unique! I love the heavier texture of these unfiltered wines. The front of this is tropical, but it doesn't finish with a tropical or citrus crispness. It's more like a granite/stone finish. More "savory" than "sweet". Funky...but I always enjoy it, as does my wife! Not sure how Indie (left) and Abbie (right) feel though...
