I still really like this wine. Papery, integrated tannin. Bell pepper, mint, vanilla. Tastes Chilean almost, but quite generous and wide ranging in flavor. Always an impressive product from a big winery.

The nose will hit any Merlot lover right in the heart. There's aromas of cinnamon, big juicy and ripe blueberry and blackberry, a hint of mint (hehe, that rhymes) and there's a fiery spiciness following it all up. On the palate it echoes those descriptors, it's medium to full bodied, has low acidity, medium and balanced tannin, and a mouthfeel as smooth as Luthor Vandross. It finishes with blackberries, an uprise in tartness, and oak. Outfreakingstanding. My #1 suggestion in affordable Merlot.

Before the sale a few years ago, the core of Benziger Winery are 8, same generation family members managing every aspect of grape growing & winemaking. Met some of the Benziger’s when the lived back East. Dark Ruby with black fruit aromas and oaky spice. On the palate ripe blackberry flavors with pronounced cedar tones and pepper spice.
