Oct 11th, 20241970 | Cabernet Sauvignon
Beaulieu Vineyard; Georges de Latour Private Reserve
Napa Valley; California, USA
(95-97; Drink 2025-40+)
3h decant
Nose has ripe cherry, cedar++, charcoal, grilled black cherry, faint olive and over-ripe blackberry.
Palate has dried cherry/blackberry, tobacco, strawberry, vanilla, dried mint, leather with medium+ tannins and plenty of acidity to hold for decades.
Epic, even besting the 1968 & 1995 for my palate!
Happy Father's Day 2024 to all.

A slightly off hint of butterscotch on the nose. Dense dark fruit with stone and poised. A shame about the nose as the fruit is great

Mar 6th, 2024Popped and poured; no formal notes. This 2005 Beaulieu Vineyard “Georges De Latour” was enjoyed alongside a 2001 St. Supery “Dollarhide” and a 2006 Chappellet “Pritchard Hill” Cabernet Sauvignon. All three were well stored examples from the same cellar. The 2005 GdL is a lovely, vinous wine. Predominately black and red fruits with some hints of bell pepper, cigar box, earth and baking spices. The structure has done a great job of keeping things together here and the wine shows great balance. Drinking well right now but likely to have what it takes to last another 5-10.

Outstanding aged Napa - perfect blancs of primary secondary and tertiary. Enough fruit to please everyone. Wow

Apr 8th, 2023Elegant red fruits , underbrush , orange zest , Indian spices. As wines get older they all kind of become similar . As good as I could expect very elegant refined. Some cherry pit blood orange on the finish . Better ten years ago but still pretty fun bottle to try for what it is .

Jan 22nd, 2023A fabulous showing from BV, boisterous and juicy it captures the coveted “Rutherford Dust” character in its tannic structure. One of Napa’s most historic wine going strong in recent vintages.
