Atypical, but crafty: someone has found a way to vinify this grape variety in such a way that the usual markers folks have problems with (rubber, sulphur, band-aid) are hidden behind coffee aromas and flavors. Here's a phrase I thought I'd never utter: I like this Pinotage.

Honestly, this is a dang good wine. Raisin on the nose, some oak/cedar, a tiny bit of funk. Surprising acidity--for all the dark flavors, it's actually tart on the tongue. The brilliance is in the palate and aftertaste: it's like you baked some prunes in the oven till the edges just started to burn. Almost an off taste (it is a pinotage after all), but it ends up being delicious, intriguing, and complex. And it lingers like nobody's business. 5 minutes and I'm still tasting it. A great experience for $15!
