Pinotage

Plum, cherry and --not surprisingly, given the name-- notes of torrefacted coffee bean. Atypical, but crafty: someone has found a way to vinify this grape variety in such a way that the usual markers folks have problems with (rubber, sulphur, band-aid) are hidden behind coffee aromas and flavors. Here's a phrase I thought I'd never utter: I like this Pinotage.

I'm not sure this should qualify as wine. Either I got a bad bottle of wine or this is supposed to taste like a used suppository.

Humble outdoor party, wine 1. No detailed notes taken to ensure proper hedonistic payback of event organized :)
Wise choice for the start as this wine is intriguing, lively and quaffable, with coffee-inspired name.
Blackish purple color, garnet rim.
Medium intensity aromas of smoked insulation tape, peat, cigar box, cappucino, dark fruits and jams.
Zesty and friendly palate. Medium body, gastronomic acidity (what was needed in my case). Flavored with various wild berries, spices and coffee beans
Lengthy and tart finish with pepper, basil and dark fruits.
Paired various snacks.
85/100 (re-taste!)

So delicious. Coffee, chocolate, cherries, beautifully complex. Doesn't need anything with it, although some ginger chocolate is a killer combo. The perfect wine for curling up in front of the fire if you're looking for interest and doing what it says on the bottle!

There is toast and roasted coffee beans on the nose. A bit of cherry too. The palate is a bit creamy, with a good acid drive, a bright and ripe cherry and some width. The finish is creamy with notes of expresso again and cherry. Not bad
