Ripe and rich, however, acid still at high level…but thats sangio for ya! Tannins somewhat clunky, herbal, red:black fruit, long finish

Winery is located in the heart of Chianti Classico in the valley which lies south of the town of Panzano and is called the "Conca d’Oro" (the golden shell) because of its amphitheatre shape. Deep Ruby with aromas of dried fruits and oak notes, 18 months of French oak aging. On the palate flavors of sweet cherry with tobacco and floral tones. Fine sweet tannins, vivid acidity, well balanced, long finish ending with earthy mineral character, 15% alcohol, nice mouthfeel. Pricy but one of the best I’ve tasted, consistent.

Tough vintage, closed at first, but then opens up with a bouquet of berries, but very high alcohol level, 15%

Fontodi’s 2012 Vigna del Sorbo #ChiantiClassico #GranSelezione is all that ~ night one deep and dark with herbs, roots and barks for tea dominating the flavors ~ dark fruits popping a bit more when paired with sausage pasta ~ night two more red fruits emerging especially when paired w steak and truffle fries 😉

The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is quite possibly the most elegant, refined version of this wine I have ever tasted. It does not offer the immediacy or impact of either the 2015 or 2016, but, instead, impresses with its elegance, persistence and total class. Bright floral and spice notes add perfume to a core of red-toned fruit. The 2018 represents another move towards greater finesse at Fontodi. It spent a year in French oak barrel and a second year in cask. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2021)

This is a "wow" wine. The fruit is lovely with notes of black cherry and cassis accented by brown spice tones. The tannins are superb wit lovely cherry and cherry pit flavors. Great Sangiovese austerity with mineral and fruit on the finish. This is mature but will keep.

Maybe the best Chianti I've ever tried. Maybe Its maybelline. But at $68 per bottle, it BETTER be the best Chianti I've ever tried.
