Delle Fontane Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico
Red fruit - cherries, plums, cranberries - not too heavy. Sicily’s first and only DOCG wine. I like it. I imagine this being good with some sfincione or grilled swordfish.

Jul 17th, 20192015 vintage is 60% Nero d’Avola, 40% Frappato. Med body, very dry with med plus tannin, very juicy with tart raspberry, and sour cherry. Hint of metallic and leather on the nose. Very earthy and rustic.

May 28th, 2019Raisiny and metallic on the nose, with raspberry notes. Sharp on the palate. Almost like a ripasso.

Mar 11th, 2017Longer oak and bottle aging than the Cerasuolo Classico, and correspondingly more cured meat and leather and earth balancing the bright red fruit. Very pretty. Cote Rotie fans should love the acid structure and savory tones.

Apr 26th, 2016Nicely aromatic & quite ethereal with ripe dark damson plum boosted by aniseed and fleur d’oranger. Some tart cherry, too. Sweet yet savoury with a mineral, dusty core underneath. Enticing.
Medium bodied on the palate, with firm, dusty, fine tannins, framing a nice core of dark cherry and bright super fresh acidity. A hint of wet earth, a hint of baking spice towards the finish.
This is drinking beautifully right now and hinting at something more complex than just a usual sip. All the elements come together, not seamlessly but with really interesting edges. .
A truly lovely & delicious wine.

Nov 15th, 2023Smoke, tar, earth, leather to start followed by a slightly sweet cranberry finish. I do not believe in terroir, but this wine expresses the earthiness of Sicily. The nose is smoke and leather. This wine is so expressive and underrated here. Just the right age now and ready to drink out of the bottle. Great for steak but still good with my pizza.
