Tarry nose full of cherrie and blackberries. Huge tobacco. Cigar. Super spices. Just lifted and incredibly aromatic. Showing more age than the last bottle. Fresh as can be while also showing its dark aglianico side. Black berries, black cherries, great saturation and concentration. Really persistent. Nose is just beautiful and very tarry and distinctive. Velvety tannins. As this opens the concentration becomes more apparent. Gets inkier and juicier. Nose gets some anise notes. Structure also becomes more apparent with air.

Awesome wine. Ripe nose of black fruits all day. Elite aromas of grilled nuts, hoisin sauce big time, ethereal mineralIty, a sense of high end seaweed along with the hoisin. It is utterly fascinating. On a bed of rich Aglianico dark fruits. Digging this. A sample they sent me. A knockout nose that gets better by the minute. Palate has unreal concentrated fruit. Dense, layered, dark and rich but with uncanny freshness, a dense minerality and those unreal slate like, slayer like Aglianico tannins. Toothsome as one says. A wine to chew on and also meditate on. 2 for 1 deal. These wines need hours (days) usually to start to really show. I’ll track this. But this is a base line 9.5 now.

Pardon the absence - we’ve been ravaged by COVID (despite being 3x vaxxed) and our olfactory sense has finally crossed the threshold—no longer feel like I’m smelling everything though a thick blanket. For our first wine back we chose a big one - 2008 Molise aglianico from @Lyle Fass - served cellar temp we’re able to pick up on some nuances - leather, tannin, medium finish, but not much else. Lovely to be drinking wine again and looking forward to full olfactory recovery.

Nose is this very interesting subtle cherry plum melange.

Palate is sweet cherries. Elegantly delicious.

30 minutes in I get like old Bordeaux vibes.
