Weekly Wednesday Wine Committee lunch...always such a treat to attend. This week, Dan hosted. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All blind as usual.

These Carneros chards from Aubert always throw me for a loop. I pegged this as a west coast Chardonnay, but thought it was a Kistler. Very sharp mineral notes and acid...very different than Aubert’s other chards. I’ve not had the Hudson which is similar. This started off sweeter than expected and really transformed in the glass to show more floral/honeyed cashews that led me to west coast Chardonnay.

My least favorite of Mark’s single vineyards Chardonnays . But oh soooo good. Would recommend a 30 minute decanting .

Nose of blossoms, pine nuts, and pineapple skin. A hint of effervescence early on which dissipated an hour in. Palate features deep, unctuous fruit- almost the orange slice candies. Some ripe peach in there as well. The sweetness paired well with sweet corn accompaniment.

BYOB. When comparing this to the Drouhin Chevy, it seems "manufactured". I'm stealing that from my dinner companion but it's a spot on observation. Doesn't mean it's bad, just that the seamlessness you get from a great white burgundy doesn't seem to translate through to new world Chardonnays often.

13' I don't think it's as full-bodied as the 12'. A bit more Oak... Yellow/green apple, floral notes skip through this. Rich structured acidity. I would cellar this for a bit.

13' Two hours opened... still to acidic. The balance is all off. I would wait a few more years. I'll fined out!

Creamy texture with a orange marmalade flavor . Awesome chard from one of my favorite Chardonnay producers. 2013 continues in Quality after the Great 2012's. CB 95...

Really subtle and deftly made. One of the more restrained, maybe even linear, Auberts I have had.
