Day 3 in Napa in the books! Running a day behind on notes...Napa time runs slow AND fast!

Loire Valley meets Napa. Very stewed red fruits with savory and herbal components like tomato, old black cherry, cherry pipe tobacco, and a small hint of pepper down the middle. We ended up buying one to take to dinner and more fruit shows after it gets some air.

Wonderful Cabernet Franc, made in a style reminiscent of CF from the Loire Valley.

Solid Cab Franc gaining some traction here. Blue cotton candy, pyrazines, blackberries, dusted plum skin, cedar. Created by guest winemaker Steve Matthiasson, harvested Sept 4-15, 2014 and saw 14-21 days in stainless, then 20 mos. in 20% new bousset french oak.
Recommendable, smooth and easy drinking 13.9% abv Cab Franc! Word's out!

Old world in style. Medium minus body. Vegetal, floral and elegant. Different from what you get in the valley. Big fan.

Reticent nose. Medium bodied. Stewed red fruit. Better CF out there at this price point.

Finished our trip to the Okanagan and had experienced some great new wines that will write up in due time. Back home and to celebrate the trip we opened something completely different, a 100% cab franc made in a 1980s style California red. It’s heavy with ripe dark fruits, namely plums, black currants, dark cherry followed by herbaceous notes, earth, graphite and leather. There is a moderate amount of rounded tannin that fills the palate. Served with steak, grilled portabello mushroom and asparagus.
