Arterberry Maresh
Dundee Hills Pinot Noir
I’m glad I followed this over two days, as it improved dramatically from day one to day two.
As I’m diving in to more OR wines these days, I realized I hadn’t enjoyed any Arterberry Pinot (even though I’ve had Maresh vineyard wines). 12.8ABV and totally sports they crunchy, lean profile while retaining balanced weight.
Pale ruby in the glass. Little bit of reduction on the nose which blew off quickly. Day one was extremely timid…faint underripe red and black fruits, cedar, herbal twang, and black tea aromatics. Day two showed this open up to reveal more dark floral notes. Stemmy/green on the palate but not overly so. Dried cranberry, black cherry skin, earth, bitter herbs. Definitely sports a Burgundian flair to it, and at this point needs either an extended decant or years to sleep. Nice bottle once it came around.

Bright red. Fragrant red and dark berries, baking spices and candied flowers on the nose. Shows fine definition and lift to the sappy, gently sweet cherry, black raspberry and spicecake flavors. Smooth and seamless in texture, finishing with a hint of smokiness and discreet, well-knit tannins. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, February 2022)

Red Riesling. So relaxed and fine that it’s difficult to notice how masterfully it’s been raised. Cranberry and raspberry, with none of the stewed, cola, birch notes that wreck so many Oregon Pinots. Exceptional.

Oct 26th, 2019Terrific value Dundee Pinot... a lot going on in the glass, early-pick or stem green notes, violets, black cherry pits, freshness and some mineral. Needs some time and/or air.

Jul 14th, 2018Jim Arterberry-Maresh is one of Oregon's most talented, young winemakers. His entry-level 2015 Pinot is anything but basic, delivering vibrant, mineral-laced red fruit and floral character, with striking clarity and balance. Sure, it'll age, but it's pretty gorgeous right now. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, Jan 2018) $25
