Deep purplish ruby red. Rich nose with dark cocoa, blueberries, pencil shavings, gravel, and perfume. Heavy tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Approachable for being Mountain fruit and so young. Layered palate with some dark mountain berries, dusty notes, dark cocoa, and a little powdery mouthfeel. Lovely long and integrated finish. Drink till 2030. (94+)
Made up of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from a single block (Coliseum Block) on the Hossfeld Vineyard in Napa Valley. Aged for 30 months in French oak barrels and then for an additional year in bottle before release.

So disappointing. This is my second time having this wine and I just don’t think it’s any good. It’s too savory and minerally for my taste. Lacks any dimension. I absolutely love their obsidian and their sauv blanc so my disappointment with this was shocking. A complete antithesis to their estate Cabernet.

Needs more time in the bottle. Finish is strong. The rest of it needs to catch up.
