Popped and poured. The 2021 “Il Frappato” pours a beautiful light ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining on the tears. On the nose, developing with beautiful aromatics: raspberries, cranberries, pomegranate, red flowers, and crushed rock. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(+?) tannin and medium(+?) acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. Overwhelmingly fresh. Finish is long and so delicious! So elegant. What a beauty! Drink now to enjoy its youth but if you have multiples, it might be fun to track how it ages. I suspect it has enough structure and balance.

Nose has ripe red cherry, cinnamon, evergreen needles, moist wood bark, under-ripe raspberry and crushed granite.

Palate has red & black cherry, dried cranberry, green herbs, faint steely notes with nice acidity and mild tannins.

A brief, 1H decant helped to get this bottle moving tonight.

A fine pairing with home made pizza, a Wednesday night staple in our house.

Feels tired and lithe. Subtle fruit and secondary notes. Lacks depth and complexity. Perhaps a vintage issue compared to the 2018.

It stormed out of the gates with aromas of strawberry and pink peppercorn. Wow, what a statement! And then the performance mellowed - coy about revealing more, especially on the palate. Eventually, air did coax out beautiful floral, white pepper, clove, plum, and even tea aromas. The palate however was as stubborn as a mule, offering just bright cherries and sometimes blackberries, on a silky light-to-medium body. As easy as this was to drink, you'd be as foolish as we were not to give it enough time to reveal all it's facades. An impressively complex wine from an underrated variety.

Dark garnet in the glass. A rather fantastic nose with a distinct potpourri thing going along with a bit of tar. Light to medium weight on the palate with tart cherries, dark seeded brambles and packed with all kinds of rocks and minerals. Good spine of acid. A gorgeous wine really. Arianna Occhipinti is making serious and beautiful wines with the humble Frappato grape and I love it!

Candied just-ripe black cherries, purple plum and black raspberry, currant leaf. An herb I can’t quite pinpoint... fresh savory or bay? With a hint of earth and kalamata. Brilliant ruby hue, very focused palate of red fruit/ strawberry. Really nice.

Luminous red. Inviting aromas of ripe red cherry, raspberry nectar, cinnamon, and minerals. Fresh and juicy, with lovely inner-mouth perfume to the mineral and sweet, spicy red berry flavors. Finishes long and fragrant. Perhaps not as concentrated as some past Frappatos from this estate, but a lovely wine nonetheless. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, August 2019)
