Antoine Sunier
Régnié Gamay
This wine has multiple personality disorder. The nose is extremely pretty. Almost confectionary red fruits and lovely subtle granitic minerality. The palate begins in a way that’s consistent with the nose, with deep red fruit, but then the flavors turn puzzlingly bitter as time passes. The tactile feel is nice, with little tannin and good acids. Right now it’s an 8.7 because of the bitterness on the palate. But I will recork the rest and re-test tomorrow night.

Feb 24th, 2024Just wow. This Gamay is so pretty right out of the gate. Floral red fruit nose that’s perfectly balanced to the finish. Amazing with steak tartare and roasted sweetbreads at Angele.

Nov 27th, 2021One of the most ready to drink 19s I’ve had. Superb balance, soft blackberries spice and verve

Sep 19th, 2021Compact nose of blackberries and minerals, mouth follows with a good chew + a fresh and mineral finish. Impeccable cru expression and balance; super well played considering 2015 hot vintage.

Aug 7th, 2018A little more round, sweet dark fruit than I would have expected.

Apr 12th, 2018Deep ruby. Fresh dark berries, cherry pie, candied violet and a suggestion of smoky minerals on the assertively perfumed nose. Sweet and expansive on the palate, offering juicy blueberry, cherry compote, spicecake and floral pastille flavors that slowly tighten up with air. Finishes sappy, smooth and very long, showing persistent florality and fine-grained tannins that rise up slowly. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, October 2019)

Palate has engaging sweetness and wonderful purity of intensely concentrated fruit. Sappy and pure. Nice mineral finish. Really well made. Nicely structured as well. Good powerful wine yet unapologetically Regnie.

So light yet forceful. Beautiful pure fruit and nice somewhat firm but juicy tannins. Terrific wine. Score could go higher with air.
Day 2: Cherry, earth, dusty nose. Deep and nuanced. Feral, floral and meaty. Palate has a lovely earthy sweetness, and is vastly improved on day 2. Much sweeter, deeper and tannins are the same but riper and sweeter. Great.
