Les Charmes Morgon Gamay
Gotta love a ~$17 #crubeaujolais from Costco. This producer’s #morgon might have developed further for a couple of years but this 2019 opened up nicely a day in the wine fridge. Swirling in my Burgundy bowl glass reveals spicy wild cherry notes edging towards bramble fruit, raspberry purée, black pepper, wet stone, iron and faint smoky notes. Solid concentration on palate, crunchy red fruit, substantive tannins supported by juicy acidity. Outstanding QPR here - stock up on this for Thanksgiving if you can find it.

1 person found it helpfulAug 22nd, 2021Deep ruby color. Aromas and flavors of black cherry and black plum, violets, lavender, cola, black pepper and wet shale. Long earthy finish. Quite fruit forward but there are enough tertiary notes to make this wine harmonious. Mouth watering acidity and fine tannins. Medium bodied and nicely structured. Solid QPR.

Jun 22nd, 2024Medium to dark red color. Aromas and flavors of red and black cherries and plums with noticeable floral (purple), mushroom and wet stone/mineral components. Carbonic Maceration is noticeable. Nice acidity levels and very smooth/fine tannins. Excellent QPR!

Jan 25th, 2024Had at Nico’s graduation party. A bit acidic at first, but ends smoothly. I liked it.

Jun 11th, 2023Don’t get me wrong, this wine is good. But it tastes more like a basic Beaujolais than a Morgon. I think I only paid around $15 for it, though, so I can’t really complain.

Aug 23rd, 2022Nicely dense and consistent Beaujolais. Deep red color and pretty tannic for a Gamay based wine. Aromas of black fruit with a cotton candy/bubble gum (not sweet) note. Black fruit flavors with a hint of mineral and black olive. You can chill it and drink it young or put it aside to age.
