Alexander Valley Vineyards
Cyrus Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

I was given the responsibility of opening and serving this bottle to the guests of a 40th birthday celebration. From double-magnum. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple of hours. The 2005 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of significant sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous, with notes of ripe and slightly desiccated fruit: cassis, blackberry, black plum, tobacco, leather, Pablano pepper, vanilla, earth, and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin (that is mostly integrated) and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This wine, from this format is in a really lovely spot. Drink now through 2035.

Burnt candle wax notes improved to truffles! Go figure! Baked cherries black and bing, with tobacco sweetness, a touch of mint and rosemary, cedar, red currant, and a little grape bottle cap candy (in a good way). Cafe de leche with toffee, licorice and smoke. Really a charmer. This one evolved in the glass, showing so many interesting angles; muscled, but finesse through to the tangy, lip smacking, loitering finish.

Well we made it to the weekend, it is Friday night and we are in the midst of a pandemic. So, let's not dwell on that, we need to be positive and try and keep things as normal as possible. Tonight I have opened the 2013 Alexander Valley Vinyards Cyrus Cabenet Sauvignon Blend. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot.
The nose is very expressive with notes of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, licorice, herbaceousness, vanilla bean, hint of green bell pepper, black peppercorns and cigar box.
On the palate is also very expressive with black cherry, blackberry, black plum sauce, black licorice, green bell pepper, minerality and rich earth.
This wine is big bold full bodied with medium + acidity and medium + to high chewy mouth coating tannins that lead into a long black fruit finish. Please try and enjoy the weekend the best we can and stay safe. We will all make it through these trying times sooner than later. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Deep ruby hue. Prominent oak and fruit influences. Fruit is tart and yet candied. Creme de cassis, candied blackberry, freshly picked raspberry, tuber rose, delicate potpourri, cedar box, oak, vanilla, coconut, tobacco leaf, nutmeg, anise, and molasses notes. Consistent on the palate with velveteen tannins and a long finish. Bordeaux blend with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot from Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, Healdsburg, CA. ABV 14.3%. Vintage 2014.
