Happy International Women's Day!

It was once widely believed that women who tampered with the winemaking process would curse the grapes. Thankfully, we’ve come a long way since then, with women who are engaged in and excelling at all levels of the wine business. Today, we raise a glass to the women who have knocked down barriers and continue to pave the vinous way with a taste of wines made by women winemakers. Cheers!

Cannubi Barolo Nebbiolo 2012

Cathy Corison

Tight and dominated by VA at the beginning. Blossomed with time in the glass. Tart cherries emerged. White pepper and minerality. Tannins integrated with time. — 6 years ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Wow! So I stand by my assessment of Napa '14. Beautiful blue fruit that is so smooth and mouth coating. I dare you to drink just one. — 6 years ago

Napa’s ‘14s are a gift indeed! Already great out of the bottle. Necessary while ‘12, ‘13 and ‘15s sleep away!

Monsieur Ètain Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

This Monsieur Étain from Scarecrow and Celia Welch is an outstanding Cabernet. Expressive, intense flavors of cassis dominate this wine following by smooth undertones of wild flower and dare I say some incense coming off the nose. The finish is beautifully long, silky, and expressive. May be a bit young now, but I'm loving it! Happy Mother's Day to you and yours. Cheers 🍷 — 6 years ago

@Paul Treadway think this will only get better with age. But I've not tried the '13.

Château La Lagune

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Katherine Bordelon

Inky, dark, red cherry color. Sweet tobacco, gentlemen's musk, white, creamy floral on the nose. The palette is smooth, velvet, with very subtle layers. I can see why some reviews have mentioned that it seems flat. It doesn't have tannic layers. This wine is super elegant, non-pretentious and easy to drink alone or with non-complex dishes. Could easily age another 10+ years but what's the fun in that!! Drink now! — 6 years ago

Domaine François Raveneau

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 2011

Sublime sophistication, Raveneau's 2011 Chablis Premier Cru Montée de Tonnerre shows its pedigree with complex aromas of roasted pear, earth, hazelnut, iodine, and smoke. The influence of Kimmeridgian soils is evident on the palate, one that is both expansive and neatly tailored, swathed in stone fruit and lemon curd tightly bound by a mineral spine. The finish is intense, meandering and tipped in fleur de sel and dried herbs, especially tarragon. — 6 years ago
