Cocktail Series: Negroni

Are you looking for an aperitif to keep you company on these cold winter nights? Are you a fan of elixirs with a deep red hue that hit you with a bitter sensation? Do you pride yourself on cutting the perfect orange twist as a garnish? Then the Negroni is the next cocktail for you. With Vinous' La Festa coming up, you might need a break from all those Italian wines, so give this Italian cocktail a try! Story goes that the Negroni evolved from the cocktail known as the Americano. The Americano is a potion containing Campari, soda water, sweet vermouth, and garnished with a citrus slice. One evening in the 1919, Count Camillo Negroni was in the mood for something a bit stronger than the classic Americano, so he asked for the soda water to be replaced with gin. And as with all classic cocktails, word began to spread, and popularity began to rise. In the late 1940s, Orson Welles publicly sang praise for the cocktail, further spreading the Negroni name. So how do you make this cocktail that will make you look like the knowledgeable bartender you are? Make sure to load your bar cart with Campari, Sweet vermouth, gin, and can’t forget that perfectly twisted orange. And if you really want to make a great Negroni, serve it in a rocks glass over a single large cube of ice. As is the reality of cocktails, there are multiple variations based on a classic Negroni. From a White Negroni to a rum based Negroni, the options are endless, and you can find the perfect Negroni beverage that works for you. Happy drinking!

Thanks Marc! I love the St. George stuff. I tried the reposado rye gin here in Vegas. That was really interesting.
