Sipping Fine Wine

Founded in 1993 by Larry Turley and makes almost 50 wines, vast majority of are single vineyard designate Zinfandels and Petite Syrahs. Juvenile is composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of their old vine sites. Ruby with aromas of red fruits and jolt of pepper spice. Palate shows fresh cherry, strawberry and blueberry flavors with pepper spice that calmed down after 30 min. Fine tannins, vivid acidity, nice balance, long finish ending with a fruit character and slight notice of alcohol. Good value!

Sometimes what you want is just a big ol’ Cali zin. Though this one’s not particularly big (a good thing). What it is is deliciously ripe and ready to drink with plush fruit, bruised hibiscus, jammy blackberry, agave, hershey’s bar and a touch of baking spice. A bit of sweetness on the finish, though I’m guessing not in comparison to many Cali zins. Mercifully not missing acidity. No guilt here, just pleasure

Very captivating for an entry level wine. This is varietally expressive and has nice freshness.

Lighter than I expected at 15.2. Plum and raisin. Not as rich or balanced as 2016

Who else is making Zinfandel like this nowadays? Dark purple with traces of pink. Big fruit on the nose with all the cherry pie and cranberry you could ask for. Funky spice and sage complement. I’m trying to imagine what this wine would be like if so many other labels got their hands on it. This is a big Zin but it could be so much more bold and silly and thoughtless. In the hands of experts however, this is fresh and vibrant and fun. Medium bodied with high acidity and this baby is intense. High octane fruit and alcohol but the alcohol burns off quickly and you’re left with a youthful fun wine. Nice red fruit and oak to go along with the smooth chocolate and smoke on the palate. These are always fun and you always want more.

Bright, fresh wine with medium body. Ripe strawberries and soil, clean. Very drinkable, good purchase ($50 CAD).
