Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend

Chocolate and licorice on the nose. Smooth finish after a short decant. Paired excellent with steak.

We are at the start of yet another weekend and I welcome it with open arms. I have opened the 2015 Château Malescot St. Exupéry Margaux. This wine is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot.

The nose is very expressive with full dark fruit, black cherry, black plum, blackberry, black currant, violet, menthol, mocha, roasted herbs and a rich earthiness.

The palate gives up the same beautiful dark fruit, black cherry, blackberry, black currant, menthol, licorice, herbs, asparagus, graphite and rich earth.

This is a wonderfully balanced full bodied supple mouth feel with medium + acidity and medium + smooth mouth coating tannins that leads to a long dark fruit filled finish. Enjoy your weekend, be safe and please be kind to one another. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

UGC Tasting - San Francisco

2015 vintage. Some definite swings with this wine. Tasting for the third time in three months. Deep, funky leather earth nose. Medium body (and slightly less than the usual Malescot bod). Oak definitely there but more complimentary vs aggressive. Soft/silky tannins. Plums + herbs. If this were a blind tasting, I'd hafta peg this as a 2014-2018 Malartic Lagravières. Def tastes more Graves than Margaux. Best bottle of the three tasted. Scoring a 92.5 but rounding up with the elegance factor. With so much bottle variation (purchased separately 3x), who knows? This one is lighter for Malescot but delicious.

2015 vintage. Giving nose with lotsa mint/menthol. Heavy body as usual. That mint/menthol rolling thru the finish with plum. rhubarb and a really really small floater of pomegranate. Lacking in concentration on the finish, however, so a bit disappointing as it stands now. Compared to the 2014? Not even close. Since it's a fave Margaux property, triple decanted to coax as much potential as possible but came up a little short.

1hr+ decant. Dark purple color with dark fruit on the nose. Concentrated but lacks character. New world style and I would have guessed an average Napa Cab if having blind. Has aging potential but not sure if that evolves this at all. Having had vintages from ‘00 to this, I’d say the wine at some point definitely shifted in style for the worse unfortunately.

Not my favorite style. Seemed rough and unrefined. While age might help, it’s missing the fruit and softness that I like in other Margaux wines.

Beautiful French red for our anniversary dinner

Fantastic. On the nose: blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, cedar, cigar, menthol. On the tongue: blueberry, blackberry, cedar, smoke. This wine evolved substantially from open to an hour decant. Good balance on the structure. Raw and refined at the same time. Nice pairing on a rainy night with a filet au poivre.
