Starts out with a bit of reductive stink. Serious blackberries and tart fruits, with long acids. This can be enjoyed now with a long decant. Lots of material and extraction and concentration, ie this is a big wine, but the fruit is a bit sidelined. Generous take is this needs another 5+ years to come together. But it is pretty high tannin and drying... and way too extracted for my taste now. Maybe the fruit will stand up with time.

An epic vintage of La Vizcaina. A wine with great poise, elegance, depth, and texture. Raul Perez deserves every accolade and bit of attention he is receiving. Marvelous Mencia.

Incredible depth and complexity in this Mencia. Needs air. Floral, stoney, and dark, ripe fruit on the nose. Black cherries and crushed raspberries are met with soft earth and a Beaujolais-esque granitic quality. Concentration and structure but with a restrained elegance. Beautiful wine.

Made in the natty/dank way, an approach that does nothing for this wine...unless you enjoy the smell of cooked vegetables, raw herbs and tobacco in your red wine. However, there’s also a purity, juiciness and energy that wholly redeems it in the end. A really good wine that could’ve been great. #raulperez #bierzo #mencia

This is really smooth. Red fruit, and florals. Not tart, or big and everything seems integrated. Incredible how smooth this is for as young as it is. Paired perfectly with chicken curry and beef panang. SS
